Twenty years ago, I oversaw the renovation of my childhood home. I planned to spend a summer hiring trades, scheduling work, and managing the budget, but early on I found myself firing contractors, extending timelines, and running over budget. I was unprepared for the questionable business practices sometimes found in the trades.

To salvage the project, I leaned on contractors who operated with integrity and with their guidance, took on a more active role. I found myself enjoying the work and satisfaction that comes from transforming a space with your own hands. Together we turned a dilapidated eyesore into the envy of the neighborhood. With the right team in place, we finished on time and within budget.

I was happy with the outcome, but not the chaos that threatened the project early on. That’s when I realized the opportunity to take my acquired skills and use them to help others successfully complete their projects with peace of mind instead of anxiety.
